Day Sails
Enjoy a three hour sail from Alamitos Bay and out into the Long Beach Harbor area. We’ll visit the Sea Lions snoozing on the sea bouys, see the downtown Long Beach skyline and maybe anchor for lunch. The day will be low key, relaxing and fun.
$75 per person.
Two Day Coastal Cruise
We’ll depart Alamitos Bay mid morning for a lovely downwind sail to Newport Bay. Practice your down wind sailing skills, enjoy the view of the coastline, watch for sea lions and dolphins. We’ll anchor in Newport Bay and relax aboard or explore the bay by dinghy. Then we'll have dinner onboard or perhaps in one of the many water front restaurants. After sleeping “on the hook”, we’ll sail or motorsail back up the coast to Long Beach, arriving mid afternoon.
Instructional topics may include: Helm time, GPS, navigation, VHF, sail trim, cruising spinnaker handling, anchoring, dinghy operation, motorsailing tips, docking, boat keeping.
$150 per day per person.
Three Day Catalina Island Cruise
We’ll depart Alamitos Bay and arrive at Catalina Island mid afternoon. Depending on the weather and the day of the week, we may visit the City of Avalon, or the more remote West End. We’ll explore ashore, relax with a nap in the cockpit, catch a fish, swim – you choose. After a night on board, we’ll cruise along the coastline and visit another interesting spot for another relaxing afternoon. Again, choose your activities for the day. The next morning, we’ll do a little sight seeing then head back to the mainland enjoying a great sail home.
Instructional topics may include: Helm time, use of the auto pilot and wind vane, sail trim, motorsailing skills, navigation, GPS, radar, VHF, maintaining vessel systems, dinghy operation, beach landings, house keeping.
$150 per day per person.
Four Day Around Catalina Island Cruise
This cruise will involve a circumnavigation of Catalina Island. We will visit Avalon, the West End, the back side of the island, then have a great sail home. There are dozens of beautiful coves around the island, each with it’s own look and feel. We will visit the coves that most interest the crew: the City of Avalon with it’s art deco theater, the small village of Two Harbors, remote snorkel spots, great hikes, lazy strolls, sand beaches, sheer cliffs, anchoring, moorings – what ever interests you. We’ll sleep and cook aboard or BBQ ashore, share boat chores, explore in the dinghy, learn to anchor and pick up moorings.
Instructional topics may include: Helm time, auto pilot and wind vane use, GPS, VHF, radar, sail trim and handling, cruising spinnaker handling, dinghy operation, beach landings, anchor and mooring skills, motorsailing tips, vessel systems, house keeping.
$150 per day per person.
Three Day Santa Barbara Island
This is a more intense exploration / learning cruise. Depending on weather, we will either head from Alamitos Bay directly to Santa Barbara Island or to the West End of Catalina and spend the night. An early departure from Catalina will give us enough time to go ashore and explore tiny Santa Barbara Island. The island is 1 mile wide and 1 1/2 long so it can be hiked in an afternoon. The vegetation is sparse, but there are several species of birds which nest there, right next to the trails. You will see 100s of sea lions as well as elephant seals hauled out on the shore. The views from the island overlooking the ocean are fantastic. Don’t leave home without your camera! We’ll stay in the anchorage overnight, visit the sea lion rookery by boat in the morning then have a long down wind sail back to Alamitos Bay.
Note: This trip can be extended into a four day trip to allow more time to explore, or to visit Catalina Island on the way home.
Instructional topics may include: Helm time, auto pilot and wind vane use, GPS, VHF, radar, sail trim and handling, down wind pole use, cruising spinnaker handling, dinghy operation, pier head landing, anchoring, motorsailing tips, watch keeping, ship avoidance, vessel systems, housekeeping.
$150 per day per person.
