CRUISE THE SPECTACULAR SEA OF CORTEZ

The Sea Of Cortez has long been a favorite of ours but we usually limit our trips to one week. There’s so much to see in the Sea!!! This time we will depart from La Paz and quickly head north past our usual cruising grounds, to the more remote anchorages and islands that the Sea has to offer. We will stop in remote towns, visit the town of Loreto, the various islands in the area and venture ever northward as time and weather allow.

This will be a great opportunity to work on your cruising skills. We’ll cover anchoring, sail trim, the art of motor sailing, navigation, weather, electrical/water monitoring, plenty of helm time and dinghy operation and landings. We will provision in small towns, buy fish from local fishermen and catch our own as well. Traditional sailing schools cover the basics but there is never enough time to practice these skills in all different kinds of circumstances. You can practice until you’ve mastered it.

MEET US IN LA PAZ!

WHERE WE’LL GO.

From La Paz we will explore the islands north as well as visit the villages of San Evaristo for a great meal ashore, Agua Verde for cheese, Loreto to re provision and see the historical mission and more great food!

WHAT WE’LL DO

We will practice our cruising skills at length and anchoring along the way while visiting the islands of Espiritu Santo, San Francisco, Isla Coyote for fresh fish, San Jose, Danzante, Carmen and Coronado as well as dozens of coves along the coast of the Baja.

Probably a dinner ashore in Loreto, a bon fire on a remote beach, fresh cheese from the ranchers, seafood right out of the sea the beauty of the mountains, the cliffs, super clear water, crazy beautiful snorkeling, and endless beaches with only our footprints. This will be a trip to remember. Perfect if you hope to explore the Sea on your own one day or to see it for the first time. It’s like no other place we’ve ever cruised. Your new skills will serve you anywhere you choose to cruise.

Is this trip for me?

This trip involves limited walking, steps in and out of the boat as well as the dinghy, a ladder to exit the water when swimming, a shared cabin with a person of your same gender, sailing for perhaps 5 hours per day, excursions ashore on foot as well as in cars. You will be living aboard a large sailboat in the tropics with multiple other guests.  The weather will be in the 80s and possible rain.  There is plenty of water, but not unlimited amounts. Don’t count on there being air conditioning onboard.

This is a high end sailing experience but not a cruise ship.  You may be asked to help in the galley, take out the trash, strip your bed at the end of the trip and help loading groceries.  It’s all part of the adventure.  Be ready to be dazzled by the beauty of the area and to make life long friends.

Accommodations.

We’ll be on two 50’+ monohulls, any experience level welcome, all meals and boat expenses included. Total price for this trip is $4350.

Every boat is different but we all have shared cabins. Some cabins are similar to a Queen sized bed and some are two single bunks, either side by side or one over the other. Bathrooms, or heads are either shared or attached to a cabin. Sometimes both. Each cabin has storage cabinets or shelves for your belongings, but they are not house sized and you will need to keep your luggage in your cabin, so a soft duffle bag works best. There is absolutely no room for hard or oversized luggage.

  • Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Coffee first! We begin the day by serving tasty breakfast onboard. Breakfast usually varies from crepes to yogurt and fresh fruit depending on how many activities we have planned for the day. Lunch is often served while sailing or at a day anchorage while exploring. Drinks and appetizers often run throughout the evening with lot’s of merriment and delicuous food!

  • La Paz Dinner

    The Menu

Meals aboard are healthy, balanced and determined by the available provisions. Meals are prepared by the crew but you may be asked to help chop vegetables, set the table or help with dishes, from time to time. Dietary issues will always be accommodated if we are notified in advance.

  • Michelada

    Extras

Who doesn’t love Mexican food, fresh fish and tacos? We like to introduce our group to cultural dinners as well as some of our favorite restaurants on the islands we will visit. A variety of local dining with fresh fish, great drinks and more are available at most stops. For meals aboard our crew has often put something special on the menu like dessert, locally caught fish or pastries for breakfast.
